FREC’s Northern Midwest Partnership seeks to open up ‘fourth spaces’ (a concept developed by our 2026 presenter Amanda Florence Garcia Goodenough) which fosters conversations around racial equity. We invite communities to gather and engage in regular conversations around building more racially equitable communities.

Annual Racial Equity Conference
Each year we host a racial equity conference which focuses on inviting communities to gather and learn how they can talk about and take action around building racial equity in their own community. Our goals include:
- To further the process of building more racially equitable communities.
- To provide information and education on racial equity to people living in rural communities across the Northern Midwest in a format that is accessible to them and encourage local community action.
- To create cross-cultural opportunities for ongoing conversation and networking around the topic of racial equity.
- To celebrate and uplift local knowledge of racial equity and expand and document this knowledge base.
