As FREC has grown, we have added more learning opportunities.

Twin Cities Events

Since the Overcoming Racism Conference sells out quickly each year, we have begun partnering with allies in the metro area to host smaller community events throughout the year, such as films and panel discussions to focus on racial justice issues. Our 2017 events included a Teach In on Enbridge Line 3, a proposed tar sands crude oil pipeline through Northern Minnesota that threatens the environment and treaty rights. We partnered with Honor the Earth on this event. We also hosted a Human Rights 101 event, partnering with the Advocates for Human Rights.

Our goals for participants are:

1) to learn about important and emerging community issues around race;

2) to leave feeling empowered by committing to follow up action (petition, letter writing, etc.), and

3) to connect with community organizations that are doing important work around confronting and undoing racism.
